BOUWMEESTER, LOUIS FREDERIK JOHANNES
BOUWMEESTER, LOUIS FREDERIK JOHANNES (1842–1925), Dutch actor. Born into an acting family, Bouwmeester made his first appearance at the age of 12. He became widely esteemed for his acting in Shakespeare, especially as Shylock. Other Shakespearean roles he played were Hamlet, Mark Antony, Wolsey, and Richard III. At the age of 80 he played Shylock on the occasion of the 1922 Hague Conference. -BIBLIOGRAPHY: BWN 2 (1985), 5860
